Promoting Sustainability

With the ever increasing price of gasoline, and the charge to society to reduce its levels of pollutant emission, it’s only logical to look to the public and private sectors to form a joint partnership in order to implement effective far-reaching programs in an attempt to aid in the quest to make sustainable transportation not only an abstract idea, but an achievable goal.

Environmental Considerations of Sustainable Transportation

Sustainable energy practices in transportation means utilizing alternative modes and implementing alternative sources of energy that do not deplete resources or pollute the environment and can power part or all of the existing and future transportation infrastructure1. Goals of this bold venture include reducing emissions, air and water pollution, and dependency on non-renewable energy. Increasing efficient use of energy is another step toward a sustainable future.

Education/Raising Mode Awareness

Take a look at the photo above. What do you notice? It takes a lot more space to move that same amount of people by car than it does to transport them by bike or even a bus! Sustainable transportation is all about developing innovative ways to move people in the most efficient way possible. In order to progress toward sustainable transportation, outreach efforts must be undertaken to instill a sustainable mindset.
