Fort Lauderdale Celebrates Park(ing) Day 2012

On September 21, 2012, KAI joined forces with UrbanMatters CoLab, the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Urban and Regional Planning, the FAU School of Architecture, and the Broward Chapter of the American Planning Association to take over three parking spaces in Downtown Fort Lauderdale for PARK(ing) Day 2012.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where citizens, artists, and activists collaborate to take back parking spaces for public use. The central mission is to call attention to how much space is dedicated to the automobile and to foster awareness and debate about the other types of uses that that space could be used for. The ultimate goal is to inspire people to improve the quality of urban spaces worldwide.

Computers 4 Kids Uses Donations to Improve Education

Computers 4 Kids (C4K) Foundation is an international, non-profit organisation—part of Rotary International—that refurbishes government and corporate computers for distribution to disadvantaged and underprivileged children. The majority of their computers are bequeathed to young students who may be experiencing social and/or financial disadvantage, physical impairment, or disability. C4K also distributes computers to students in geographically disadvantaged communities in remote areas of Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.

Australia’s GoGet celebrates decade of car-sharing success

When Bruce Jeffreys and Nic Lowe first considered starting a car-sharing company, they knew they faced a host of unknowns. Since 2003, the pair has grown their business, GoGet, to more than 800 vehicles and 20,000 members. GoGet operates in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and Brisbane, Australia. The founders reflect on a successful decade and what the future might bring.
