Lord Mayor’s Award for Excellence - Brisbane, Australia
June 29, 2011
The Brisbane City Council Transport Group and Capacity Management Teams has recently been awarded the Lord Mayor’s Award for Excellence for Value for Money. This was to acknowledge the accomplishments of the team for their efforts on the Single ITS project, which was supported by Miranda Blogg of Kittelson and Associates. The following is a brief description of the award as outlined by the Brisbane City Council:
The Lord Mayor’s Helen Taylor Award for Local History provides funding to individuals to support them in the productions of work that furthers the understanding of Brisbane’s history or heritage. The award honours the work of local historian Helen Taylor, who combined her skills in researching & writing history with a passion for making history accessible to the community. In Helen’s memory, this award encourages both excellence in research & innovation in popularizing the results.”
Brisbane City and Department of Main Roads chose 12 major Brisbane City corridors for signal optimisation during all hours of the day, and included weekday and weekend plans. Kittelson’s role was to provide technical support for Brisbane City Council's Signal Retiming program using the Transyt 7F software system. The goal of the Single ITS project is to link the signal systems of Brisbane City Council, Transport, and Main Roads so they can communicate and operate in a more orchestrated and efficient manner. This will help reduce delays, fuel consumption, and emissions without physical improvements. Congratulations to BCC and Miranda!
