League of American Bicyclists Award Bicycle Friendly Businesses
May 05, 2015
On April 22, the League of American Bicyclists awarded 161 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses (BFB) in 46 states and Washington, D.C. The BFB list now includes more than 950 businesses that are transforming the American workplace.
The League represents bicyclists in the movement to create safer roads, stronger communities, and a bicycle-friendly America. Through information, advocacy and promotion, they work to celebrate and preserve the freedom cycling brings to members everywhere.
“Visionary business leaders are recognizing the real-time and long term impact that a culture of bicycling can create,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “We applaud this new round of businesses for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their employees.”
Several KAI’s offices are BFB businesses (Gold: Boise; Silver: Portland; Bronze: Baltimore, Oakland, Anchorage) and we recognize the importance of bicycle infrastructure in our cities.
Bicycle planning projects and the implementation of bicycle infrastructure make biking possible for all of us. We would like to say “THANK YOU” to all those who work to implement “little things” to make a difference. Thanks for:
• Bicycle lanes, buffered bicycle lanes, and cycle tracks
• Smooth bicycle facilities (removal of tree roots in bicycle lanes)
• Sweeping of bicycle facilities, especially as we transition between seasons
• Bicycle actuated flashers
• Bicycle boxes, highlighting conflict zones (green paint), bicycle signals, etc.
• Midblock crossings
• Bicycle boulevards
We are excited to be part of professionals that will continue to raise the bar to do better and are also thankful for the investments that we have already made!
