Highway Safety Manual Workshop

As part of our on-going Transportation Education Series, the Portland office recently held a workshop to discuss the forthcoming AASHTO Highway Safety Manual (HSM). The interactive workshop was held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. The discussion focused on the development of the manual and potential applications of new methods at statewide, regional, and project levels. The presenter was Beth Wemple of Kittelson & Associates, Inc. Beth is the co-Principal Investigator leading the project team in developing the first edition of the HSM. She has worked at KAI for the past 15 years. She has extensive experience in transportation planning and safety-related work and she currently leads Kittelson's Safety Practice. Beth is also secretary to the Transportation Research Board Task Force for development of the Highway Safety Manual. She has been an adjunct lecturer in transportation planning at Portland State University.
